September in Review

new blogs I found & enjoyed:
Veda House. So so so very visually appealing. When I first found her blog I scrolled through so many pages!
The Velvet Bird. I mentioned her shop in my Friday Favorites but I also found her blog last week and was sucked in!

new (to me) movies I watched:
Catch Me If You Can. Ugh, so good! I'm wondering how it took me so long to see this.
The Girl Next Door. A disturbing movie that kept me on the edge of my seat!
Grand Theft Parsons. I probably only liked this movie because I like Johnny Knoxville.
The People Under The Stairs. A good movie although I must admit it wasn't as scary as the title suggests.
Funny Games. The German version is so much better than the English version (no matter how much I love Michael Pitt) as I found out while watching it.

    my favorite posts this month:

    exciting happenings on and offline:
    • Camping with Ivan and Elycia was a blast (you can see the recap here!) I want to do it again right now!
    • I decided at the last minute to go to a family reunion instead of a tattoo appointment (don't worry, my artist wasn't mad) and had a blast. It was so much fun to hang out with family that I haven't seen since I was really young. I wish I would have taken pictures!

a tiny (and incomplete!!) list of things I'm thankful for this month:
    • family • finding film for old cameras • netflix • instant film • thrift stores • kind strangers  • chuck palahniuk and his new book • family reunions • beautiful fall weather • the most calm cat ever • mushrooms • living near the beach • good handwriting • surprise packages in my PO box • people who still send snail mail • baked tofu sandwiches • mod podge • organized closets

September flew by way too fast. It's going to be Christmas before we know it!
    xoxo

new blogs I found & enjoyed:
Advanced Style. I already shared my love for this blog in a Friday Favorites post but it's too fabulous to not mention again.
Diversions. She is so snazzy. I would really really enjoy raiding her closet!
An Eclectic Heap. Also super snazzy with a raid worthy closet.
Vanillery Garden. She has a gorgeous blog full of pretty pictures and excellent content!

    my favorite posts this month:
Jackpot - I've got a mushroom permit, and I'm not afraid to use it. (hahaha)
Pymatuning Deer Park - I could look at these pretty deer photos all day!
It's the little things - like sleepy Squid.
What Doctor Octopus wore - I have the fanciest cat in all the land!!
What I wore; Colorblock Dress - Gosh, I really love this dress.
Why are baby animals so cute? - A tiny turtle so cute you might get teary eyed!

new (to me) movies I watched:
Blue Mountain State: Season 1. This isn't really something that I would normally watch (I'm not really into college movies about partying) but I thought this was hilarious and I tore through the first season in a matter of days. I can't wait to watch season 2!
Love Stinks. I really liked this movie, but I might be biased because I really like Bridgette Wilson (the girl from Billy Madison, if you're not familiar with the name) and French Stewart.
My Teachers Wife. I love hating Christopher McDonald in movies, he plays a good jerk in movies.
    True Crime.
River's Edge. This was such a good movie, one I'm surprised I've never seen before. It was hard to work while watching because I just kept watching the movie!

    exciting happenings on and offline:
    • Celebrated my birthday the whole month (boo at today being the last day of my birthday month!!)
    • I started working on a new project that I've been planning for months and months. I can't wait to announce it once I get a little bit more done! I'm really proud of what I've gotten done so far.
    • I realized morning star "bacon" is absolutely delicious and I've been eating it non-stop. It's been nearly five years since I've had real bacon and this stuff is better than I remember it ever being!! Tip: Toast some bread, spread vegenaise on both pieces and put some "bacon" in the middle. Your belly will thank you!
    • Planning another get together with Elycia is pretty exciting! I can't wait to see her and Ivan again. Boy, oh boy, do I wish they lived in Ohio.
    • I bought a brand new iMac for myself on my birthday. I'm still so in love with it, and wondering why I didn't buy one sooner. Work is so much more fun now. I love using photoshop on that big screen!

a tiny (and incomplete!!) list of things I'm thankful for this month:
    • well behaved cats who love to cuddle • chocolate milk • delicious corn on the cob • netflix • my family • great weather! • having a dream job • beautiful state parks and "undeveloped" land.
good music • the coolest nieces and nephew you could ever dream of • state fairs • spending time with old friends • slushies! • hair "mistakes" that turn out awesome • technology (and skype) allowing me to have a business meeting with a friend • squeeze-y hugs from my dad • free furniture • having great thrift luck lately!! •

August was great, but I'm not gonna lie, I'm STOKED about September. Fall is by far my favorite season.
    xoxo

Monthly Recap

new blogs I found & enjoyed:
Tick Tock Vintage. Veronika wears super snazzy outfits and I'm mildly obsessed with her blog layout, it's pretty fantastic!
The Nearsighted Owl. I recently featured her owl print in my Friday Favorites but only realized she had a blog too when she commented on the post. Her blog is so so so cute!
Made by White. Earlier this month I posted about her fabulous website, but soon after I found it I became obsessed with her blog as well.

    my favorite posts this month:
    Birthday Wishlist!
It's the little things... like a jar full of lightening bugs!
    My weekend with Elycia
    A photo an hour.
What I wore 7.16.11 - The Outtakes. The gif of jumping photos with my dad and Kevin are my favorite things ever.
Officer Octopus - my cat: the snazziest dresser ever.
Pretty in Purple - my fabulous new purple hair!

new (to me) movies I watched:
The Winning Season. I love Sam Rockwell. Period.
Cecil B. Demented. I refrained from watching this movie because I didn't like the way the cover looked, but ended up really liking it.
Year of the Dog. It was a great movie except I rated it a one star on netflix because it was horribly sad (I cried a million times throughout the movie and even sobbed a little afterwards) and I never ever want to see it or anything like it again.
BASEketball. It wasn't hilarious, but it did offer a few laughs while I sewed which is really all I'm looking for.
Other than a few more that aren't even worth mentioning I didn't really watch very many movies this month. I've been on a Saturday Night Live kick and am in the process of watching every single episode avaliable on netflix.
    exciting happenings on and offline:
    • Getting to see Ivan and Elycia again was pretty high up on my list of awesome things this month.
    • I had the best weekend ever last weekend with my parents and Kevin, getting our antique on! ...But I'm sure I'll blog about all of this later this week, so I'll save it! ;)
    • We finally put cupboard doors in our kitchen. I've been hiding the fact that when we bought the house it didn't have cupboard doors in the kitchen and we've been so busy that it just kept getting put off. We used Ivan and Elycia's visit as motivation to finally make some. I'm so excited to share pictures. We have a super cute little kitchen now!
    • I released July's clutch of the month design! (pictured above.) I absolutely adore them, and am now mildly obsessed with flaps.  You can find them here!

June in Review!

new blogs I found & enjoyed:
Betty Crafter! A very new blog, but let me tell you I enjoyed every post so far. Her home is dreamy!!
The Burning House. I'm so crazy about this one I dedicated a whole post to it earlier in the month.
Mini Penny. She's got mad style and she's from Ohio!!

    my favorite posts this month:
    •  Jumping for Joy - An outfit post where I announced ModCloth had chosen me as blogger of the moment!
    Vegan Banana Bread Recipe!
A peek ... into my newly painted craft room. Oh my, I'm still in love with it.
It's the little things... a like a little hat for your cat. Doctor Octopus is so snazzy.
    Ten things making me smile.
    What Doctor Octopus Wore...
    The Collector. Part 10.

new (to me) movies I watched:
The Science of Sleep. It was so fantastic I wrote a whole post about it.
Miss Nobody. I love Missi Pyle (most under rated actress ever, if you ask me!) and Leslie Bibb so this was an instant favorite. It was really a great movie.
Cry-baby. I don't know what to say other that how had I never see this before this month?!
Benny & Joon. Okay, so I had a Johnny Depp marathon at work but this is another movie I don't know why I had never seen before!
I also watched a whole slew of really strange movies that are so weird they're almost worth watching for the shock value like Watch Out and Kissed. (a warning - both are pretty graphic!)

    exciting happenings on and offline:
    • Well, I already mentioned it once in this post, but I'm going to do it again - I'm still super stoked ModCloth chose me to be blogger of the moment at the beginning of the month. My namesake dress sold out almost immediately (there is now one left in blue, but the red and white is gone!) Did any of you buy one? I'd love to see you in it!!
    • I bought a waterpik and I'm in love. I feel so clean after using it. Even if you don't have braces this thing is a must!!
    • You guys, I had my first veggie dog this month. Where have these been these last five years!?
Professor Stingray turned one. This actually isn't exciting, I don't want him to grow up.
    xoxo!

May In Review!

I liked doing the end of the month wrap up so much last month I thought I'd do it again this month (and maybe every month?) I wish I had started doing this sooner! Even looking back at last months was really interesting to me! I can't wait to look back at these in a year or so!

    May in review!
new blogs I found & enjoyed:
    • I just recently found that Geninne had a blog. I've been raving about how much I love her work since the early days of this blog, so I'm super stoked to find she has a blog!!
Creepy Animals. So, they haven't posted in five weeks but going through the all the old posts was a lot of fun!!

    iphone apps downloaded:
Park Finder. Helps you find local parks. You can search by activities and it shows you the distance to each park from where you are!
Garage Sale Rover. Last month I downloaded the igarage sale app, which I still love but this new one shows sales that it doesn't (and visa versa!) This one is free plus it automatically marks rummage, estate and community sales in another color than garage sales which is so much easier for me.
Fungi. It's a mushroom identification app which is obviously super relevant to my interests.
    (kevin using the fungi app)

    my favorite posts this month:
What I wore 5.20.11 - The day I tackled my fear of taking photos on the deck!
The Collector: Part 9 - My most personal collection.
    Tutorial. Sweater Clips!
    Sorry Kitties...
    Where I blog.
The Dainty Squid - caught peeking in my journal!

new (to me) movies I watched:
Easy A. This movie was seriously 100x funnier than the previews ever looked. (The dad is totally my favorite character, I love him!)
Leaves of Grass. Okay, so I had seen this before but I really wasn't watching just listening while I worked but I actually sat down and watched it this time and I was surprised how much I liked it. (How can you not like a movie where Edward Norton plays both the main characters?!)
The Crush. I'm a big fan of late eighties, early nineties dramatic thrillers so this is right up my alley. I mean, it wasn't amazing but it was good to watch while I worked.
Fear. Well, I just told you I liked cheesy dramatic thrillers and this definitely fits the bill. Anyways, I actually really liked this one (possibly just because of young Mark Wahlberg though....)

    exciting happenings on and offline:
    • The new Man Man cd, Life Fantastic, came out and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I highly recommend it!
    • Hey vegans, and non-vegans who like yummy food - you know that daiya came out with pepperjack cheese not too long ago right? OHMYGOSH. It is the best thing I have ever tasted. We've been making grilled cheese sandwiches with it but my mind is seriously swirling with ideas for what else I can put this cheese on.
    • I got to meet Elycia and we had one heck of an amazing time!  I can't wait to see her and Ivan again.
    • I'm still on cloud nine from launching my new line earlier this month. I'm so so so excited for what the future holds!
    • I got a really really awesome email mid-month that I will tell you all about tomorrow! Eeeeep! I'm busting at the seams to spill the beans!

    See ya tomorrow!
    xoxo

April in review.

Can you believe it's almost May already? I remember on Fridays (a while back) when I'd always blog something along the lines of "Can you believe it's already Friday already" but now it seems like I always feel like "wow, can you believe it's the end of the month already!?"

Inspired by Pugly Pixels end of the month wrap up "Links Loved" I thought I'd share something similar of my own!

    April in review!
new blogs I found & enjoyed:
    Hue and Hum!
    • As I mentioned in my Friday Favorites already, MaieDae!
    Koi Story!

    iphone apps downloaded:
    • All three full versions of Angry Birds. I'm almost embarressed to admit how often I play!
iGarageSale. I'm crazy in love with this app. I orginally downloaded the lite version but within ten minutes I bought the full version!
Tetris. Why did it take me so long to download tetris on my phone?!
Couch to 5K. A running app to help get my out of shape self into shape! I've only done a few days so far but I'm digging it!
ThriftBuddy. I just downloaded it last night but I'm pretty stoked to get out and use it to find new thrift stores!

    my favorite posts this month:
    • Hair Tips and Tricks; part one, two and three.
    Vegan Peanut Butter Pillows. Yuuum!
    Diana Mini!
Spring. It's not weird to be inspired by my own photos, is it? Because I certainly am.
Friday Favorites #100! Wahooo, I'm still excited I reached 100 Friday Favorites posts.

new (to me) movie I watched:
I love you Phillip Morris. I love Jim Carry so much, do I recommend this movie? Yes, as long as you're old enough to watch an "R" rated movie. Ai yi yi, it had some vulgarity (and I'm no prude!)
White Oldeander. I really like Alison Lohman, she's a great actress!
Amelie. Can you believe I only watched it for the first time this month? Me either. It was awesome!

    exciting happenings on and offline:
    • I had a breakthrough (I guess you could call it) in where I want to be with my business, and what I want to make. I'll blog about my new designs and stuff a little later this week! I'm so excited.
    • Started making plans to meet Elycia after we realized just how close she is even though she's across the border from me. I get butterflies when I think about it!
    • Had a great brainstorming session with my tattoo artist regarding my second full sleeve. I'm so excited about it. I can't wait to watch it progress over the summer.

It was a great month if I do say so myself!
    xoxo
