I can't put my finger out exactly why, but I am drawn to abandoned spaces. These left behind Dresden apartments photographed by Fredrik Marsh are very beautiful to me, perhaps it is the thought of what was once there, and the fragments and patterns of life left behind.

Simon Evans

    Simon Evans

I am fascinated by the interesting concepts of London-born, Berlin based artist Simon Evans' current exhibition now showing in NYC at the James Cohan Gallery. Have you ever thought of photographing and writing about all you have? What is your most prized possession(s)?

"The title of the show Island Time is a reference to Robinson Crusoe and the hand-made objects that were critical to his survival on a desert island—a metaphor that draws connections between the state of being shipwrecked, to the role of the artist as an outsider, to the artist's personal biography living as an expatriate in a foreign city. Evident in the work is Evan's preoccupation with counting and charting—an activity also key to survival as a castaway."

I also really like the piece below called, "One Hundred Mix CDs for New York." It makes me think twice about actually burning cd mixes again and making pretty covers for them. See more of his work here.

Colusa Bus Accident Investigations at its Final Stages

After months of speculation of the cause of the tragic bus accident, finally investigation revealed that the driver Quintin Watts was indeed drowsy during the crash. The investigation yielded no traces of alcohol or drug use. Due to such development, Watts was released from the state prison after 3 months of imprisonment.

On October 2008, eight people were killed and thirty-five others were injured when their bus ditched into a narrow road.

Initial investigations uncovered that neither the driver nor the bus has the legal rights to be on the road. The road was listed as non-operational.

Watts, on the other hand, was on parole for his 2007 conviction. While he has a long-standing authorization to drive pilot tankers and trucks, he had no DMV authorization however to drive a bus. Due to the accident, Watts’ parole was revoked and he was send back to jail.

Tragic bus accidents like this could likely cause by various causes. Driver’s error, mechanical defects, road or weather conditions and legal intricacies may altogether contribute to a horrible accident like this.

Consequently, all negligent parties who had contribution to the crash, no matter how little could face legal consequences.

May this incident be a lesson to all of us. One single mistake may result to invariable and complicating outcomes.

Papabubble

The artistic cult candy store Papabubble based out of Barcelona, with shops in Tokyo, Amsterdam, and New York is a (new to me) favorite find. Although I have yet to try them, their little candies and lollipops look like little pieces of Venetian glass, and some of them even have tiny icons or messages inside. (See a video more about them here) I also dig their overall branding and 'lab style' aesthetic. Who is a fan?

Nursing Home Cited for Poor Care

Admittedly, we are so busy sometimes that we could no longer afford our elderly members of the family the care and attention they need. In our minds, the best thing to do is to send them to nursing homes, health care facilities or rehabilitation centers.

Sending them in these caring institutions give us the belief that they are well taken cared of. However, with the cases of license revocation and citation of several health and caring institutions, it made me think twice.

Lemon Grove Care and Rehabilitation Center in San Diego County was one of those included in the growing list of nursing homes who have received a citation. In fact, it received an “AA” citation, the worst and most severe penalty and a fine of $80,000 from the state of California.

This incident had been fueled by an incident involving a 74-year-old woman who died at such center for burn injuries.

Caring institutions must observe all the necessary precautions, care and safety measures to afford their clients the best services they could give. If they fall short in giving good health care, the state of California may give them citation and/or a civil monetary fine.

The penalty and citation process are aimed at giving the public quality care.

Books

Here are some things I am perusing this week and last week. Yikes, I am a little behind with my sharing.

1.Domino: The Book of Decorating - Sad to see the magazine disappear, but this book shares a lovely collection of some of their favorite rooms, a way to savor those decorating looks and tips.

2.Tartine: This is a selection of recipes from beautiful bakery in San Francisco that I have yet to visit. The book is a work of art in itself, and I am in the mood to make something delicious after flipping through these pages, banana cream pie... with caramel and chocolate anyone?

3.Three Cups of Tea : We are reading this in my book club this month. I have yet to crack the pages but I am intrigued by the back cover quote, " The astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his remarkable humanitarian campaign in the Taliban's backyard." Anyone read this?

    4. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle : Although I am only on disc 3 I am fascinated by this book (which I am listening to on cd). It discusses the lack of agricultural education we have in the U.S. and how we don't really have a food culture. Well-known author, Barbara Kingsolver moves with her family to deliberately eat food in the most local way possible. To learn more check out their website.

    What are you perusing lately?

What not to do if you have a personal injury case

    Misrepresenting Your Accident or Injuries.
Doctors document in their records how you describe the accident and your injuries. When your description varies from the way the accident happened to the way that injuries are described in the police report or other statements, the insurance company can use the descriptions to make you appear untruthful.

    Hiding Past Accidents.
If you have been in other accidents, you need to say so, so that your lawyer can investigate and make a determination as to whether it is a valid problem in your case.

    Hiding Previous Injuries.
If you have ever seen a doctor or other health care provider, then there is a record in existence that the insurance company will find, not that can find, but will find.

    Not Having Accurate Income Information.
In many cases, a claimant will have lost income because of the accident. You will only be able to claim lost income if your income information is in good order.

    Misrepresenting Your Activity Level.
If you claim that you cannot do certain things, but you are not been honest, you can jeopardize your claim. Personal injury lawsuits are serious business. Insurance companies are willing to spend a lot of money investigating claims.

If you have a personal injury case, please contact us, we can help. We are San Antonio Personal Injury Trial Lawyers and we are here to help you. That is why we say we care about your legal needs.

Harry Potter redesign concept

    Harry Potter redesign concept

Maybe if the Harry Potter books looked like this, I would read them. Cool concept design by M.S. Corley, who is also making prints out of these. (I know, I know don't judge a book by its cover, but the designer part of me always evaluates cover design first.) Now ... someone go conceptualize those much needed vampire book covers that I haven't read either. Am I the only one who hasn't read either of these series?

To Clarify: I read lots of books with ugly covers, I am just charmed when the actual 'cover' appeals to me. As for Potter and vampires, I've never been much of a fantasy genre reader, or is that what they are classified as?
