July Giveaway: [Pink] Nintendo DS

I've been saving up from the sponsors the past couple of months by doing smaller scale giveaways so I could do a doozy like this one this month. While I know pink may not be everyone's color of choice, I can't pass up a sweet pastel hue and it's even better when I can play Super Mario on it! So this month, sweet honeybees, up for grabs is a pink Nintendo DS. Completely packaged up in it's original box ready to make its way to you! I have a DS myself and kind of love it. My favorite games are Animal Crossing, Diner Dash, and Super Mario (do you have any favorites?!). Mike bought a Wii yesterday so it's been a Nintendo celebration in our household. I snagged this little beauty while we were out and about (and it was one sale!) so have at it!

All you have to do to enter is:
Be a follower of this blog with Google Friend Connect! (Click "Follow" in the upper nav bar and follow with Google/Blogger, Twitter, Yahoo, or Aim!) and then leave a comment with your email address! (This is just one entry!) You must do this entry first to be eligible for additional entries! To gain additional entries, you can blog (or Tumblr!), tweet, update your status on Facebook *each with a link over to the giveaway* or "Like" Little Chief Honeybee on FacebookJust be sure to leave a separate comment for each entry and leave the link to each one! Overall that's FIVE ways to win!

*If you tweet about the giveaway, please use this tweet: Up for grabs on the @kaelahbee blog is a Nintendo DS! Enter to win here: http://tinyurl.com/5wjzlhh

(You must include a link to the giveaway in your tweet/blog/status update! Several people have just been tweeting at me or leaving a comment on Facebook... I'm not sure how that would enter you! *PLEASE NOTE: tweets to me, in my Tumblr ask box, or comments left on my Facebook will not count as an entry! The point is to share this giveaway with others and make them aware of it! ;P)A winner will be announced at the end of the month! Good luck! (Don't worry, there will still be other sponsored giveaways going on in the time being!)

PS; The winner of the June Giveaway (Instax 210 Wide camera) is Comment #517 - Lady and the Tramp!

PPS; The winner of the My Sweet November giveaway is Comment #96 - Mandy Sellers!

Having My Own Business & Thoughts of...

I DAYDREAM about what Kate Spade (the office) would be like in person.

In fact, on my list of top 5 DREAM JOBS, Kate Spade is one of them!! (and I mean the headquarters) So there....I said it.

Don't get me wrong, I love MY JOB!  Being my own BOSS, running my own business, making the final decisions, coming up with new ideas & communicating with my customers.

However, there's STILL a part of me that YEARNS for a SOCIAL environment full of CREATIVE PEOPLE!  I mean, let's face it, working from a home studio can get a bit ISOLATING & sometimes it's even too quiet....even if you do work with 2 other people.

I'm sure some of you can relate to what I'm saying right??!?!?

Often times I think I should just take a p/t position somewhere just to get out & socialize on a more consistent basis.....you know, beyond THE WEB!!

Perhaps an experience like this would supply me with LOTS & LOTS of creative energy, who knows....but it does sound exciting & it's something I've contemplated since the beginning of this year. Ok, so I'm tempted...BUT would I really LOVE it?!?!? Perhaps I just need to find a good balance....

I've posted about Kate Spade a few times & can't get enough of their store. I'm thankful we have one here in town, even though it's not as grandiose as the NYC one.  It does still offer several of my fave items for purchase!  Last week I was surprised by a friend who gave me the Cobble Hill Zebra Wallet for my upcoming B-day in 2 months!  I also have to mention the packaging at Kate Spade....it's sooo colorful, bright & happy! I adore it!

How about you?? How do you feel working at home? Where would your other dream job be??

Amy Rice Letterpress/Sign Press Contest (of sorts)

    new print rack

Artist Amy Rice bought a 1940’s Line-o-Scribe Letterpress/ Sign Press at an antique sale last fall. She also bought a bunch of antique atlases for art making about the same time and it turned out they were a great size and weight for the press. The idea of song lyrics about place/ travel/ journey on maps was exciting for her because it fits in thematically with her other work, and because she loves music.

Here's where you come in (and the contest): Amy has created a certain criteria for her song lyric map prints which you can read here. If you can suggest to her a song lyric to go with this series and she uses it, she will mail you one of the prints for free on the state or country of your choosing. You may leave your suggestion at her flickr or her Amy Rice Art Face Book Page: www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Amy-Rice- Click here for more info.

Dispatches from Sweden

Contributor post by Elisabeth Dunker of Fine Little Day

Greetings from a summery Sweden. Here, some pictures from an interesting exhibition (sorry only in Swedish) that me, my colleague Katarina and her dog, Perro visited today. Woodworkers, crafts people and designers have decorated sheds in the purpose to stimulate interest in locally produced and sustainable materials. The sheds that are located in Nääs/Gothenburg, is all decorated individual. I especially enjoyed these two.

This shed is designed for the urban family who longs for a house in the country. The shed includes folding beds and tables, built-in benches with storage and a small kitchenette. Compact, flexible, plain. And good looking.
The orange pattern "Tallhyo" is made by Stig Lindberg.

This shed is a timber in the traditional way but has a different layout. The timber is visible inside and the ceiling is covered with birch bark. The door can be folded out to create a small glass veranda. The newly manufactured windows are made in a manner that was common around 1900."

Elisabeth Dunker is an independent cross-disciplined designer/artist. Holds a MFA from HDK, School of Design and Crafts in Sweden. She also works as a photographer in Gothenburg, Sweden where she lives.  Visit her online here:

A Picture An Hour (Chicago Saturday)

I tweeted publicly, told Susannah to remind me, and set my alarm Saturday morning as "A picture an hour!"... I had every intention on really pulling through this time! Last time we were on vacation with Chris & Susannah I really meant to do one, but alas I forgot. This time though, I stuck it out! Until the last 2 or so hours, that is. We didn't wake up until 11am but that was because we had a long and very eventful Friday night. It may or may not have included darts, new old ladies at a little dive bar, awkward run-ins with a drunk lady, 3am bike rides (and subsequent 3am bike wrecks...). I still have a doozy of a bruise on my knee to prove it. (Thank goodness the people whose front yard I face-planted in weren't awake! Yikes!) I'm not the most graceful person and the bike I was on didn't have any hand-brakes so I was at a loss for how to stop the darn thing. Alas, I just went (down) with it.

    Anyway, here you go!

11am - coffee and lounge time. trying to wake our bodies up for the day ahead.

12pm - finishing the "getting ready" portion. makeup, nails, etc.

1pm - saying "so long" to mr. little jeans and making our way out the door. mine & susannah's cars. & sweet susannah!

2pm - in the car. on our way to nom on some sushi station. being silly in the backseat.

3pm - finally! we have arrived. sushi time. the veggie rolls were delicious! mine and susannah's iphones. aren't they cuteeee?!

4pm - leaving sushi station. heading to target to pick up things for the cookout.

6pm - the boys play a handful of games on the wii while we kill time.

7pm - bottles are open and the chit chat begins.

8pm - burgers are ready and corn on the cob is awkward to eat.

10pm - the conversation moves indoors as a result of the overwhelming amount of mosquitos.

11pm - mike is already pooped, but we start to get our second wind.

12am - chris plays his guitar and topher entertains us with his antics. twitter tweets, too!

Not pictured: the many breaks taken outside on the front porch, run-ins with strange people, disappearing guests down the road, being entirely too loud for a small neighborhood, walking to the bonner road inn bar at 1am, subsequent new old ladies and fantastic conversation, walking back home at 2am and proceeding to grill out (again) and the intensely epic business convo that i got into with susannah and mike... then feeling inspired and heading to bed around 3:30am. All in all: a very good/needed vacation!
