Thrifty Finds!

    Despite getting eight teeth pulled on Thursday, and sleeping most of Friday I was determined to get out of the house on Saturday. Sitting on the couch all day and watching movies is totally not my style, as fun as it sounds I just cannot sit still. I always have to be doing something so this resting up stuff is a concept I'm not really grasping.

    So over the weekend we went garage sale-ing and I went to my fist estate sale! I've always been intrigued by estate sales but thought it would be kind of awkward. But really, it's just a yard sale where you get to go through the whole house, right? This weekend there were three estate sales all within a 30 minute drive, we hit them all up. And I'm pretty sure it's safe to say - I'm hooked.
    I got lots of goodies including;
    a cute new camera for my collection, a pretty beaded belt (I have been looking forever and it seems like they're all too small for me. This one fits perfect!), oodles of awesome stationary and post cards, owl nesting dolls with a tree for them to live in, a handful of vintage jewelry (to make sweater clips!) and new canisters for my kitchen! Oh, oh and that floral background in each picture, that's a roll of beautiful wall paper I found this weekend as well!

    The last estate sale we visited was by far my favorite. I must have walked through the house 3 times, each time finding a new items to bring home. It was the last day of the sale so I was slightly worried that it would be picked over, but it wasn't and as a bonus everything was 50% off. I had so much fun digging through boxes of miscellaneous cards, purses, linens, clothes, and more. Everything was clean and the house didn't smell one bit. I felt so super comfortable and at home there. It was an amazing experience, I can't stop thinking about it.

    At one point I stumbled upon a book she must have kept in her purse with photos of all her grandkids and I felt really sad to be going through someone else belongings looking for things to call my own. But I put into the perspective that I personally would be really happy if when I'm gone my collection of things went to someone new who would cherish them all the silly little things I've gathered. I'd much rather someone enjoy my belongings than for them to be thrown in a dumpster. You know what I mean?

    I'm going to be checking the paper, and scouring the internet for estate sales now! I think they just moved their way into my favorite treasure hunting spot, even above thrift stores.

    Have you ever been to an estate sale? Tell me about it!
    xoxo
