Happy 3rd Birthday Leaf!
We got Leaf a little over two years ago. He was at Pet Co, one of those kitties that belongs to the
APL but stays at a pet store to get some exposure. Formerly named Morris, this little guy had been adopted twice before but returned. Found as a stray kitten I guess he didn't really have "people skills".
The second we saw him Kevin was begging to hold him. The lady got him out and he proceeded to lick Kevin's face for about 35 minutes. It was true love for them instantly. So we brought him home.
I liked him, at home Doctor Octopus and Squid weren't too impressed. Time passed and they warmed up to him, but I did the opposite. I couldn't stand Leaf. He was annoying, always scared. Hiding, and skittish. I begged Kevin to let me return him, to be the number three family to turn this cat down. He refused. I hated that he had long hair, not because he shed a lot
(Doc actually sheds the most) but because he'd get
dingleberries. Uck.
As a last resort we got him shaved. He came home a new cat. He was lovey, cuddley, not even half as skittish and wanted to be pet. Not to mention he looks absolutely irresistible when shaved. I fell in love.
Leaf is now an extremely valued member of our family. I'm
totally embarrassed and feel like a bad person to ever admit I didn't want to keep him. I was just being hasty. I'm so thankful that Kevin insisted on not giving the kitty back and so happy for Leaf that he finally found his forever home. I will never ever judge a kitty so quickly.
(not that I plan on getting any more!) Please, don't ever give up on a kitty without giving it lots of time!
He's the sweetest cat I know. He always knows when the time to give you kissies, and even has a special spot on his back that if you touch he'll fall over. He likes belly pets and eating only the legs off of spiders. His time is normally split between chasing his own tail and sleeping in the window sill, upside down.
