The weather the last few days has been *perfect*! It's been cool enough to wear tights and sweaters, I'm loving it. Of course, I'm a little concerned that summer flew by so quickly but I really do love fall. I'm so excited to start decorating for Halloween (I swear to wait until at least mid September - no matter how hard that will be!), baking things with lots of pumpkin and cinnamon and visiting the corn maze again.
All the mushrooms in the photos above (plus a few more!) were gathered in less than a half an hour time span and within an area around half the size of a football field. So exciting!
The woman in the park office said we were the only people to ever call there asking for a permit for personal use and collecting. She said everyone else calls for permits early in the year so they can pick and sell morels. I can't believe there are more folks in the area interested in identifying and collecting mushrooms.

As well as wearing cozy clothes fall also means oodles of mushrooms! I am having so much fun picking, learning about and photographing them. We finally got a mushroom picking permit, so maybe just maybe the ranger will stop harassing us...? I can only hope so. I'm really excited to happily skip around on the trails gathering mushrooms in my basket and knowing I won't have to dump my basket before I leave. (I still can't believe he made me do that...)
