Mushrooms!

Lately I've been getting the same question over and over again - "What do you do with all the mushrooms you find?" Well...I guess you'd say I collect them!! Of course, I collect everything else why wouldn't I collect mushrooms?! :P
My table currently, the pile of sticks all have little tiny mushrooms growing off of them. So charming.

I started drying mushrooms last year about the time that I started photographing mushrooms. (Actually, it started at the same time because I still have a handful of the mushrooms that I see in the group shot!). But as of recently I've begun drying nearly all of them that I pick because I not only want to keep them forever, I love watching them change. The colors, textures and shape change so much during the drying process, it's amazing.

After they're dry most of them time they go into a container for safe keeping and admiring. Other times they get hung on my bulletin board (see the third photo down in this post) or put as a decoration in a terrarium.

Do I ever eat them? No, I've actually never even tasted a mushroom. No one I know likes them or makes them so I've never tried them. Making an educated guess (based on texture!) I'm going to have to say I wouldn't like them but I would really like to try! Perhaps I'll put that on my list of goals for this year.

(my favorite that I've found and dried! Amanita muscaria var. formosa)
    xoxo
