BHLDN Paper Pom Tutorial

If you’ve ever ordered Paper Poms from BHLDN, your first thought may have been something like this (especially if you’ve never dealt with paper poms before): What is this? I thought it was a paper pom and not a fan. Do I take the wire middle off? I will never get this to look as beautiful as BHLDN! I eventually asked BHLDN for help and it ended up being a very obvious process, so here is my version of the steps (after the jump):

Finding Inspiration....

I was looking online for inspiration (as we all do) & managed to come across some great pics on the House to Home site. In fact...... the DESIRE for inspiration comes from the fact that I haven't really done any DIY projects around my home LATELY.

Sometimes we get so caught up in other things like work & our home decor becomes stagnant! Know what I mean?!?

I think my home just needs a little something new....and even though I adore pink on other people's walls... I'll just keep pink as ART in my home. Oh yea...& on my NAILS!! I think more closet shelving or a console is in my near future.....

Where do you go for inspiration when looking to decorate your home?!?!?

The LOVE lighting is such a stand out piece, I'd love to own something like this...not sure where I'd put it, but WOW.

This wall mural has some of my favorite colors and I can't get over how large it is...!

The dark walls and white mantle..... I always thought this was a great contrast. Wishing I had a fireplace right about now...

The 2 stories & the modern feel is the reason this space is so inviting to me. How can you not love that GLASS stair rail??

I'm all about velvet sofas- in fact it was one of my top choices when I moved into my place. However, it was a pain in the neck to find one in my area....ARGH!

Just like in the photo below, I also prefer to bring pink into my space through artwork.

I think pink sofas a re a bit extreme for me and probably most people I know, but it works in this home, don't you think??

I just found this cute little shop online from France called Papi Luc and instantly have fallen in love with so many things there. Aren't these little coat hangers adorable? Not to mention the actual hangers made from branches. They also make some unique kids stuff which I'm writing about today at Babble. Check it out here.

Last night Earl attended the IDSwest media preview for their event happening at the Vancouver Convention Centre this fall (September 29 - October 2nd, 2011). Highlighting the show this year will be the L41 Compact Home (images below) designed by architect Michael Katz. On site for the preview, the L41home is an ultra-compact, affordable, sustainable, energy-efficient house.

Other lineups for the 2011 show will be a keynote from Ross Lovegrove, a Tom Dixon pop-up bar (designed by the man himself) presented by Inform, lighting designer Jeremy Cole, local design star Omer Arbel, an entrance lighting showcase by Enlightened Design, Future Masters Vol 2. will return with the design stars of tomorrow (in partnership with Artsy Dartsy), Studio North (participation option for emerging design firms), the hobo lantern (a portable luminary and handbag) by molo and more. A Student's Budget Friendly Home...(Via Made By Girl)

I love home tours & ours is almost coming to an end. However, it did so well I may do another call for submissions late NEXT MONTH - we'll see! Either way, I tend to really appreciate a home that looks lived in and makes you feel like you can also do something similar! They're real.

So that's why the home tours here are SIMPLE, real and mostly AFFORDABLE. This next one is by a student in Norway who also blogs at Passion For Poison.

I'm certain that for MANY of you.... when you see HIGH END homes being featured you may not be able to relate...it leaves you thinking......"a $3,000 dresser?? I might as well keep my West Elm one for now".

The decor may be a tad bit out of reach as well as the ability to hire an Interior Designer, not a chance.......I can see why so many decide to DIY.

In fact she's been decorating on a budget because of school costs and has managed to decorate her office for only $230!! She used OLD furniture as well as adding a few small inexpensive details to the mix!

So, if you're a student living on a BUDGET, Johanna's place can definitely serve as inspiration!

I'm back! Sorry for the sudden disappearing act on my part...I had family in town & wasn't able to concentrate on my work for too long! I swear, I feel so behind on everything now. So much for playing tourist! Ha!

Today... I bring you a super CUTE bedroom that belongs to a young girl named Luisa. The pics were mailed to me by Angela Varela Cunha, a Portuguese Interior Designer who reads my blog. I couldn't be happier with what I saw!

I'm always CURIOUS how other designers from around the WORLD design & decorate a space. I tend to notice some subtle differences in style, color & even furniture which is always interesting! How about you? Notice any differences?
