A Picture An Hour (Chicago Saturday)

I tweeted publicly, told Susannah to remind me, and set my alarm Saturday morning as "A picture an hour!"... I had every intention on really pulling through this time! Last time we were on vacation with Chris & Susannah I really meant to do one, but alas I forgot. This time though, I stuck it out! Until the last 2 or so hours, that is. We didn't wake up until 11am but that was because we had a long and very eventful Friday night. It may or may not have included darts, new old ladies at a little dive bar, awkward run-ins with a drunk lady, 3am bike rides (and subsequent 3am bike wrecks...). I still have a doozy of a bruise on my knee to prove it. (Thank goodness the people whose front yard I face-planted in weren't awake! Yikes!) I'm not the most graceful person and the bike I was on didn't have any hand-brakes so I was at a loss for how to stop the darn thing. Alas, I just went (down) with it.

    Anyway, here you go!

11am - coffee and lounge time. trying to wake our bodies up for the day ahead.

12pm - finishing the "getting ready" portion. makeup, nails, etc.

1pm - saying "so long" to mr. little jeans and making our way out the door. mine & susannah's cars. & sweet susannah!

2pm - in the car. on our way to nom on some sushi station. being silly in the backseat.

3pm - finally! we have arrived. sushi time. the veggie rolls were delicious! mine and susannah's iphones. aren't they cuteeee?!

4pm - leaving sushi station. heading to target to pick up things for the cookout.

6pm - the boys play a handful of games on the wii while we kill time.

7pm - bottles are open and the chit chat begins.

8pm - burgers are ready and corn on the cob is awkward to eat.

10pm - the conversation moves indoors as a result of the overwhelming amount of mosquitos.

11pm - mike is already pooped, but we start to get our second wind.

12am - chris plays his guitar and topher entertains us with his antics. twitter tweets, too!

Not pictured: the many breaks taken outside on the front porch, run-ins with strange people, disappearing guests down the road, being entirely too loud for a small neighborhood, walking to the bonner road inn bar at 1am, subsequent new old ladies and fantastic conversation, walking back home at 2am and proceeding to grill out (again) and the intensely epic business convo that i got into with susannah and mike... then feeling inspired and heading to bed around 3:30am. All in all: a very good/needed vacation!

My Super Secret Happy Surprise!

So that silly secret surprise I was so excited about...
Yesterday was an awesome day as Mike and I hopped in the car and drove 9 hours north to Chicago! All for the sake of surprising Miss Susannah Bean on her (belated) birthday! We told her we weren't going to be able to make it (and we weren't), but after both Mike and I got bummed we decided to drive up anyway, make it happen, and surprise her! Chris was in on the whole thing luckily (we had to have someone up here help us coordinate!) We were going to surprise her at work but decided just sitting on her couch when she got in from a long shift was a better idea. We're super excited to be here and help her start off her 25th year! Do you read Susannah's blog? If you don't, you should. She's adorable! We're off to make a day of it! Hopefully I'll be back to share more soon! xo

My dream dress has arrived! I remember first seeing this dress on Pinterest and dying over it! I quickly scoured the source link (Topshop) for my size and much to my dismay they were long gone. Only a size 2 remained! I'm very wary of ordering clothing from the UK simply because I can't even manage to order the correct US size online. Add a few thousand miles worth of transit and returns/exchanges become seemingly impossible. (Yes, I know there's a Topshop in the US.. but it's only in NYC and I don't live there anymore and if you order from Topshop.com (which I did), the items are shipped from the UK still. Bummer!). Anywhoo- I had to have this dress. A lovely lady on Tumblr linked it to me in a UK size 12 (US 8) on Ebay and I scooped it up without any hesitation. It's a little bit in the waist but otherwise it's pure perfection! I am so enamored with the cut, color and style. And the pattern, too!

I've been wearing it quite a bit since receiving it Thursday, I won't lie. I've really been playing my love of nauticals up as of late! It's been really really hot here in Nashville, so you're probably wondering why I'm sporting the cardigan and tights. I tend to live my life indoors during Tennessee summers. They are brutal, at best. Air conditioning is so very my best friend. Still, it's a bit unseasonably warm for early April so I'm hoping the showers coming our way will cool it down some. Until then, my We Love Colors tights are the best and most comfortable tights to be wearing! (I just need to replace these as they seem to have bleach spots on them! Oops!)

Work this weekend was exhausting. I will leave it at that. Our friends Merissa and JT stopped by yesterday to see the place, and Elle and Bryan came by on Thursday evening for a tour and we grabbed some yummy Mexican at RosePepper in East Nashville. I'm looking forward to Bryan coming back over tomorrow night for some quality hang time! I'm also about to dive into fun decorations for Merissa's baby shower next month! So very very very excited to be involved and I just love her (and all the other gals associated!). Ready to welcome that baby in with a Mexican fiesta! I love living so much closer to my favorite people. It's a good thing! xo

    Topshop dress
    Thrifted belt
    Target cardigan
Tights c/o of We Love Colors
    Target flats
    Canal Street/NYC bag
    Forever 21 oversized flower

PS; My hair is much more "ginger" today! I opted for a more natural/orange red and I'm in love! It's from the same supplier on Ebay (epiccosplay) and it's the perfect shade of red I always wished to have! (It's a bit more copper/orange in real life. Hard to see in the photos!) Also- I promise I'm not high in these pictures! I didn't take my Zyrtec today so my allergies are the equivalent of a major world war!

Future Safari Space Hunter

This outfit is what I wore out and about on Friday night with everyone. Cue remembering yesterday's post with a recap of fondue, sushi, drinks, etc. I think I'll do an iPhone photo dump of the trip here shortly! That way I can share pictures of things we didn't have a legit camera for. Anyway, these are my new "space boots" as Mike so affectionately refers to them. I asked on Twitter a few weeks ago if anyone had any favorite shoe websites. Someone suggested UrbanOg so I went for it! (Sorry I can't recall *exactly* who said it! But thank you!). I was amazed at their prices! (Again, this isn't affiliated or sponsored, just my honest opinion!) I scrolled through tons of wedges that just weren't my style, and then I saw these bad boys. My heart leapt or something! I had to have them! For roughly $25 I was willing to experiment.

I've noticed that since getting really into shoes, I tend to gravitate towards the seemingly unlikely kind. Giant wedges, platforms, buckles, prints! I like a loud shoe. Maybe that's just my personality!

They were delivered rather quickly and it took me a couple of weeks to even know what to pair them with. I attempted a full black skirted dress, black cardigan, black tights, black handbag... then BOOM! A punch of colorful print at the feet. Well... it didn't work. It looked awful! I felt defeated but I was determined to find something that these shoes worked with. Then I remembered this dress. I probably would've opted for black tights, but I was already wearing the maroon ones from earlier in the night and I bought a new purse so I just rolled with it. I have to admit, I really like it. It's different, but it's fun. I received a lot of compliments on them as we were out and about.

Anyway! This dress is an old Wet Seal dress that I've had for years! The tights are HUE, and the cardigan of course is Target. The belt is an old Forever 21 find. I'm amazed at how much I still wear all of my old clothes. It's fun to get excited about things that already exist in your wardrobe!

Last night we met up with Susannah's family at a fancy-schmancy restaurant on the river. It was really nice. Her family is so sweet and we didn't feel awkward (which I always do!). Afterwards we opted to head downtown and walk around, finding some new bars. We ended up at our local favorite, The Opera Room. The bartender was so friendly and we had him making drinks he had never heard of. Susannah and I had some of the best conversation ever, as did Chris and Mike. I'm so excited that they came with us because they are such stellar people. We love them so much!

We set out for a Hookah bar around 1:30am and realized that nothing would be open for more than 20 minutes or so, so we walked around the Riverfront and saw the most gorgeous area of Bradford Pear trees full with white blooms and twinklelights everywhere. It was a magical area of town, that's for sure!

We came back to our hotel and said our goodnights. Got a restful sleep and here we are! We're about to head out for brunch and see where our last day in Wilmington takes us! I hope your weekend has been stellar!

Business Casual Bedazzual

This outfit is actually what I wore for the evening/night of this past Wednesday. It's the Come Sail Away dress from ModCloth paired with a black boyfriend blazer, opaque tights, Dolce Vita wedges and a thrifted gold belt. This poor belt was all of 15 cents at Goodwill a few years ago but you can't see the insanely tattered front side. I turn it around and hide the buckle because it's just so so so worn out. I haven't found a great braided gold belt to replace it so I'm going to continue to wear it until it simply falls off of me. I love little finds like that!

Mike and I ventured over to this little abandoned house to shoot these photos. Nothing fancy, but peep those locks! It was actually the right lighting to show you the crazy difference in my newly dyed (again!) dark hair and my "natural" color extensions. My hair naturally fades to that medium brown color at the ends, so I get a normal occurrence of ombre going on, but this is just ridiculous! Of course since seeing these pictures I've acquired another thing of hair dye to dye my extensions, but I don't know if I'll have time on the trip! I've been wearing them anyway. Susannah says I can just pass it off as ombre but I think it's a bit much! No worries, all will be fixed soon! I'm starting to really like my hair so I hope it keeps up!

Yesterday was a whirlwind! If you follow me on Twitter then you can probably keep up with our hijinks but we stopped at Susannah's Aunt's cafe for a yummy lunch and then we went to Independence Mall where Susannah and I were tickled to have a girlfriend to shop with. She bought a cute dress and I snagged a lovely little handbag, then we took them down to the Kure Beach area to show them the beautiful beach homes. They loved it as much as we did, I think! On the way back to Wilmington we swung through the Brew-Thru for the boys to get some beers and we snagged a Four Loko each simply because you can't get them where we live. We came back to the hotel and changed before going out downtown to a little sushi house for dinner, then we walked down the street to the Little Dipper fondue for drinks and fondue with Susannah's cousin, Sydney, and her friend. From there we migrated to random bars and pubs before settling on The Opera House. We snagged the couches upstairs and had rad conversation for several hours. I had the girls drinking New Old Ladies and they tasted fabulous. (For some reason no bartender makes them the way I do, but here they're killin it!)

Finally sometime after 1am we departed the bar and headed back to our hotel, grabbed our drinks and all pow-wow'd in Susannah and Chris' room for more chitchat, hilarity, and lots of funny YouTube videos! We even have video evidence of our fun but who knows if it'll ever make it on the blog! At one point everyone was wearing a wig... So fun. We finally decided it was time for bed at 3:30am. I of course woke up bright and early at 8am, feeling totally refreshed. I laid there for 2 hours and finally got Mike up at a quarter after 10. We were ready to head out at 11 and decided on some Waffle House because they apparently don't have those in Chicago! Afterwards it was time for the beach, walking around and about, random shops and whatnot. Susannah and Chris met up with her sister for a bit and so me and Mike decided to drive around, look at neighborhoods, grab coffee, go to lots of consignment shops and take a 10 minute power nap! We're meeting everyone for dinner at 6:30 and then who knows what else!

Yow! This has been a long entry! We're trying to find Mike a cheap plane ticket but doesn't look like it's going to happen so I'll be by my lonesome in NYC next week. A few of you left comments in the other post about meeting up! @Reply me on twitter (@kaelahbee) or shoot me an email (kaelahbee @ gmail)! It might take me a few days to get back to you but I promise I will! :D I don't know what my actual itinerary will be but it could be cool to meet up for lunch or something! I'm terribly awkward so we'll see!

I have tons of pictures from yesterday and last night so I'll be sure to upload them shortly. I also have like 3 outfit posts to go up this week already! On top of it! I hope your weekend is treating you well! Can't wait to catch up on all of your blogs! xo

Why Did the Cupcake Cross The Road?

Answer: To Take Outfit Pictures, Of Course!

By the time you read this it will be Friday afternoon.. I'm writing it a few minutes before midnight. Susannah, Chris, Mike and my sleepy self are happily in Wilmington! Finally! These pictures were from Wednesday as we were waiting on them to get into town. This is one of my new dresses from Modcloth! So glad it fit. I feel like a cupcake! The suede wedges are my new Jeffrey Campbell shoes (they're a deep purple, but they're hard to see!) and the bling on that finger is a new Juicy Couture ring. Normally I'm not a big fan of JC stuff (I only own a charm bracelet) but that little ring did something for me! I've picked up a few of those Sally Hansen nail strips that Kaylah and Laine have been sporting lately and I paired the leopard print with the OPI Teenage Dream by Katy Perry nail polish. I'm obsessed with it!

Anywho, Chris and Susannah got into town and then we headed to Lawrenceburg to stay at Mike's parents' house. We grabbed a sub-par dinner and some beers before heading over and we stayed up way too late talking to his parents and then with just each other. We settled into bed and woke up at 5:30am to get on the road. We were in the car of 14 hours on Thursday! I drove a few hours of it but Mike really took the wheel on that one! I fell asleep at one point for about an hour and a half and what would you know! Mike drove the entire hour and a half in the wrong direction... yea.. Luckily it only added about an hour or so to our trip since he went North instead of Southeast. But that's fine! We're here! We settled into our hotel and then we went to Slice of Life downtown for some pizza and beer.

I'd go into detail about Friday's plans but aside from photos and meeting up at Susannah's family's restaurant for lunch, we're an open book! If you have any suggestions for us or want to come hang out, speak up! We'll be here til Monday!

Oh! And some super ridiculously exciting news was sent to me while driving today!  So do you guys know about Levi's and their Shape What's To Come campaign?! Well, last week they had a little Twitter contest and all you had to do was say who you thought the most iconic woman of the decade was and why. Well, being that I love everything about Ellen Degeneres, I nominated her. And today I got a phone call saying I won! SO GUESS WHAT?! They're flying me to New York City on Tuesday morning for 3 days/2 nights and I get to attend the Levis/Vogue Women's Day Celebration Party! Yes! Crazy right!? I never in a million years thought I'd get to do something like this and I almost didn't think I'd be able to make it! We'll drive the 13+ hours back to Tennessee on Monday and I'll wake up super early Tuesday to drive the 2 hours to the airport and fly out! We're trying to find Mike a flight, too, so that he can come with me! I hope we can! Either way, NYC, I'm coming for you! I hope everything works out and nothing messes up my plans! If you're in NYC and you want to get together, I'll be free all Wednesday and the first part of Thursday!

    Okay! off I go!
