She's Got a Cupcake Heart

Your comments on Sunday's Honest to Blog post were so brilliant, thank you! You've really helped me feel better about the whole situation and your words mean everything! My brain is a'buzz with plenty of other topics to dive into for the new weekly feature and I hope each and every one of you will chime in all the same. (Don't worry, they won't all be self-depreciating!)

I got this dress in the mail from Shop Speedy Girl (Have you seen the site? The idea behind it is genius! It's like a flash sale site similar to Ideeli, Fab, etc, but only the cutest clothing.. and only 2 a day! You've gotta be quick! Peep the past items to see the kind of goodies they stock!) To be honest I wasn't sure how much I'd love it on my body after I picked it (This girl don't need no more of that volume if ya know what I'm sayin!) but I put it on yesterday to prance around in and I just fell in love. The pleats and ruffles couldn't be more perfect. The soft blue, the hearts... I die! I felt so pretty! I opted to tone it down with black Heda wedges and a caramel ruffle cardigan. Makes it slightly more Autumn appropriate. Next time I'm breaking out the mustard tights! Or maroon! Can I wear this dress everyday?!

Mike and I are in full DIY mode for this month's Flea Market! We've got 2 booths so please come out and see us! We're gonna have the shoppe super stocked with rad things! October 21-23rd! xo

So Long Sweet Summer

This isn't the most Autumn-appropriate outfit, I know. In fact, it's a fashion faux-pas to wear white after labor day, is it not? Ah, who cares. I've never really been one to follow those rules mainly because I don't understand them. I snagged these shoes from LuLu*s a few weeks ago and this is the first time I've been able to wear them out and about. (They're sold out on LuLu*s but you can get them here!) They're the softest red/fuschia velvet ever! I was a bit stumped on what I'd wear them with but this dress was simply made for these shoes. I don't think I've ever seen a better pairing!

The skies have been overcast in Nashville lately. The gloomy weather and the grey cardi go hand in hand it seems. A bit of sunshine from the shoes and dress but toning it down, too. Mike and I are officially working in overdrive to get ready for Honeybean's soft-launch this weekend! We know we won't get any sleep (I still have to bartend each night!) and I won't even touch the computer. I'm going to try to schedule up some posts to hold us over!

Off to do inventory! Happy Tuesday! I hope some of y'all can come down to the TN State Fairgrounds Flea Market this weekend to meet Honeybean! Next month is when the real fun should start!

Do you think it's okay to wear white after Labor Day? What are some typical fashion faux-pas that you love to commit?

PS: Here's my new hair! It's a bit flat and bland in these pictures because I had just re-dyed it yesterday and my hair won't do anything the same day I wash it. Either way, it feels really good to be a redhead again! xo

See You In September

I promise to try and give my maroon tights a rest after this post. They're so classically Autumn that I simply can't help myself! So many things are happening right now... It's crazy! I'm trying so hard to balance my work life with my personal life with my "this doesn't really fit in a category" life. Not that it's all bad by any means! Definitely not trying to sound like the victim here. I'm just trying to get a grasp on reality (but daydreaming is so fun!). This is another floral print number from AX Paris. The halter style bust is a bit different for a not so busty gal like myself, but it's a comfortable dress. They're all pretty short so I'd recommend tights or at least bike shorts, but they're breezy and fun! I was dying to take my olive Gee WaWa Flora's for a spin. I wear my black ones pretty often and I've sported these babies a few times but never had time to photograph them. Seriously... they look so intimidating, but they're so comfortable! Granted tights make them a wee bit slippery, but I say it's been some of the best money I've spent on shoes! (Just going to throw this out there, but they are on serious markdown right now! I'm talking like almost 50% off.... I want the red ones so bad! There's black and olive and purple and green and red, etc!) Anyway, I threw on a matching olive cardi and a mustard bow from my H+H shoppe and made it work! I kind of want to go stroll in the forest in this outfit. Maybe in flats though...

So some of the news that is keeping me from functioning at 100% productivity-wise: We came home to find our refrigerator was busted again. We bought it back in April for our new place and it broke down in June. We paid 150% of the purchase price to fix it, and now it's busted again. The tech guy should be here any minute. Hopefully it's not another hefty bill though! (And no, no warranty :(). --- I'll be starting my shin piece on Thursday (!!!) and I am absolutely terrified. You'd think with as tattooed as I am that I'd be calm but no, I'm a ball of nerves always. --- The best news of all: Honeybean will make her soft-launch debut at the TN State Fairgrounds Flea Market next weekend! All of her inventory will be in by October's Flea Market, but we're setting up this month just to get a hang of things and have a "trial run" if you will. You're all invited to come out and say hello and shop a bit! We'll have handmade hair pieces (including a whole range of stuff before it hits the online shoppe) and an overwhelming amount of vintage/pre-loved clothing! We're not even really remotely prepared for it, and the thought of it totally pushes me over the edge but I went for it because it's totally a smart move to scare my butt into gear! Wahoo!

Off I go to answer emails and finish some designs! It's so close, y'all! xo

Pink on Pink on Pink

This outfit sort of started off like a silly joke. Maybe it ended that way, too. I'm not sure yet. I had the desire to wear as much pink as possible, but in a manner that could maybe be pulled off? Ahh, something like that! I really can't stop wearing these maroon tights. (Psst... they're in the next outfit post, too!) Sometimes you really just need to get the worth out of them! Either way, I kind of actually really like this outfit so here it is!

What can I say about it though? I'll just be as literal as possible! The dress is from AX Paris, the cardigan is an oldie from Target. The purse (with awesome gold zipper detailing!) is a vegan leather bag from Urban Expressions, the tights of course are Foot Traffic and the shoes are thrifted (originally from Target maybe?). All I know is that those shoes were 99 cents and my size. How could I say no?!

I'm trying to be back into the swing of things. Mike put together my desk yesterday and it's awesome! We entertained friends for dinner and crashed out immediately following. Yesterday was also a failed thrifting attempt. I'm heading out in a moment to go thrifting alone in hopes of scoring some bits and bobs! We have so many exciting things up our sleeves. We made some slightly big purchases for Honeybean/Hive + Honey so hopefully they do us well! We still don't have a Grand Opening date or location set but we know we'll be setting up at Oktoberfest in my hometown in mid-October. Totally not our demographic but hopefully there will be some gals from the high school who will come out and support handmade! Happy Wednesday! Wedding Wednesday will be back in full swing next week!!

What are your thoughts? Is it okay to mix this many shades of one color?

Dotty the Librarian

Let me first apologize to any librarian I may offend with the title of this post. Something about a nice tan and navy (with a nice burst of maroon and some cute specs) makes me think of a librarian. But the adorable kind, not the stereotypical kind. Though I may be making a stereotypical depiction as well.. whatever. The important part is that you know it's a good thing. It's something I really like at least!

I've been wearing this exact outfit more than I care to admit. I'd wear it 2 hours one day, to the post office one day, and maybe to grab lunch the next day. I promise I do laundry and I promise I own other clothes. Christina probably thinks otherwise since she's already seen me wearing it on multiple occasions! Whoops! It's just really comfy. The temps cooled off for a bit and they've started rising back up so I'm balancing one pair of tights with a super light-weight sheer dress. Sheer is ~so in right now but I've never attempted to wear it. I think this is a nice balance for me. The burgundy tights are without a doubt going to be a huge staple in Autumn's wardrobe. I can't wait! We're hoping that a handful of days in Chicago will bring cooler temps, too! I've also been obsessed with any and everything gold lately! Gold bags, gold accessories, and most importantly: gold nail polish. Swoon! I'll share more on that next week though!

I snagged this bag via a PLNDR sale for dirt cheap and it's been getting a ton of wear. It's an Urban Expressions bag and I've only recently come to notice how many of those I own! If you're into really nice bags that are 100% vegan then check them out. I didn't know that was their selling point until after I had a few but I can vouch for the quality :) And the shoes are some Target favorites. I waited for them to go on clearance because I didn't have the heart to spend $30 on them (or whatever they were). $12 was much easier to digest! I'm still really loving my glasses though! I'll share my other new pair this week! Happy Monday, friends!

Sunbaked Clay

This outfit is from about two months ago (don't hate me!) but I never got around to posting it. It was a Kaelah's Closet dress that I had never worn before so I decided to give it a little twirl. The title of the outfit isn't so much related to the outfit itself, but instead to my obviously melting face! Gah, makeup is so not Southern-summer appropriate! Oh well, at least I can have a sense of humor about it I guess!

We've gone out to take outfit pictures for the past few days but the mosquitos are insane in our yard and we haven't found time to venture elsewhere. I'm going to reshoot an outfit that I've been wearing *all* weekend and then share it on here. Style blogging is weird, isn't it?!

Not much to report from my end of the world. We tore out Honeybean's garment rack and built a new one (much like the one in our loft! Sans the chains). We're very happy with it. Yesterday we painted the shelf above it and now it's finished! Just gotta clean it up and finish putting everything in it. I want to take some good styled photos of it before I share it but I just don't know if/when we'll have time! Mike works a lot this week and we just found out that my (second) favorite band in the whole wide world, Pearl and the Beard, is playing at 3rd and Lindsley Thursday night so we'll be out for that. Life never wants to slow down!

We're so happy to have her home and we even got some "thumbs up" on the interstate driving home! She's fancy and we love her! Honeybean is now on Facebook, too! (I'm working on designing a website/blog for her!) Would you mind popping over and clicking "Like" to stay updated on her adventures and events?! I'd really appreciate it! CLICK HERE to "Like" her! Happy Tuesday!

Vanilla Buttercream

Another older outfit set... same as Dandy Candy! Way more leg than I'd ever bare but it was a very balmy day so whatever! I think I got rid of this dress, too. (It's bad when you can can't keep up with it right?!) Not much to say about it except this was the first time I had a chance to wear these wedges. Still not totally sold on them but they worked for the occasion.

Yesterday I woke up at about 10am and finally rolled out of bed at 10:30 (not bad for getting home from work after 3:30am). After taking the girls out to play with our neighbors' dogs I sat down at the computer and churned out a revamped (totally brand new) media kit for my blog. Spent 4 hours on it but I'm so very pleased with the changes and the new look. It fits the blog perfectly and I hope to implement a few of the design bits into the actual layout soon. I woke Mike up at 2 (yow!) and we had to be out the door at 2:45. We grabbed a quick bite at Panera and then headed to work. I had to bartend from 4pm til 2am but it was actually a lot of fun. Some bar friends came in at about 4:15 and started ordering shots right away so it was a good time. Brian and Christina paid us a visit and I was left to babysit a slightly inebriated fiance. It was all good though.

Today we slept in and both woke up with headaches but we're determined to power through the day. We've got thirfting and loads of other fun stuff on the menu and we'll be preparing to skip town tomorrow morning for a day-and-a-half of camping and canoeing! Woohoo!

    Happy Sunday, honeybees! xo

Dandy Candy

This is an outfit we shot probably a month and a half ago when we were house/puppy sitting in Hohenwald (before Chicago!). I found a few outfits I never posted so I'll be using those to my advantage this weekend and coming week since I will be swamped, out of town/canoeing/camping, and swamped again! I dared to bare some leg in this and no, it's not something I would probably feel too comfortable wearing out and about. This is a dress I sold in Kaelah's Closet and only wore once! I feel like I'm on the constant hunt for the perfect yellow cardigan. There's this one (but I hate the short sleeves!) and I have one more from Target but it's almost like a... hilighter yellow?! I just want a pretty, soft yellow with 3/4 sleeves please!

Today I actually wore tights for the first time in months! It was *awesome* to say the least! Things are happening on the business end so I hope I can have more to share about that this coming week!

This whole week was a blur (as usual). You'd think I spent my life drunk or something because I have such a hard time recalling what happened unless I write it down! At least I can check my Twitter or Instagram to remember! We've hung out with Brian and Christina the majority of the past three weeks (haha!) and yesterday was no different! Wednesday night we went on a bike ride around West End and we all went for frozen yogurt and ate pizza. (Healthy!). Yesterday we grabbed lunch with them at Chipotle and then we went to their house for a late evening swimming session! Followed by more unhealthy food and a trip to WalMart to stock up for our camping/canoeing trip coming up Monday! We like them, they're fun!

I'll be spending all weekend work work working. Working 4pm til 2am tomorrow so I better take advantage of this time to sort through my inbox and sort out sponsor stuff! Eep! I promise my life is more exciting than I make it out to be... sometimes. ;) Happy Weekend!

Ruffled Sage

This week has been the most whirlwind week of my life. Between tons of design commissions, things related to the camper/business, hanging out with friends and making time to spend with Mike, I've been swamped. I love weeks like that though! Wednesday night Mike and I went bowling in Franklin with Christina and Brian. We've been spending a ton of time with those two and it's been a lot of fun. My wrist still hurts from 4 hours of bowling! Yesterday Mike and I woke up and drove a few hours north to the people who are doing the camper renovations for us and we looked at a few others available. We opted to go for a Yellowstone instead of a Shasta. A rectangular body instead of teardrop. I hope it turns out like we're wishing! We could have it as early as the end of this week but we're trying to not get our hopes up.

This was an outfit we shot on Friday. This little location is darling and it's just on the other side of a fence from our building. This chiffon dress was sent to me by AX Paris. I got a little ballsy and wore it without tights (I still wore my bike shorts!) but it's a bit short on me so I'll probably get a ton more wear out of it once tights make their way back into my wardrobe. I've worn my Blowfish flats to absolute death but I still refuse to part with them. I think the sage and ivory color palette really work well together. I'm loving me some neutrals lately! I'm tellin ya, it's that Autumn fever I've got!

Today we're loading up and heading East with Brian and Christina (again!) to go to the World's Longest Yard Sale. Apparently it goes from Gadsden, Alabama all the way to Ohio (one website says Michigan!) Either way, we're going to head to the part here in Tennessee and hopefully find some awesome stuff. It's the last day of the annual 4-day event so it might be rather picked over, but I can't justify skipping it! Wish us luck! xo

Unintentionally American

I was feeling festive yesterday. Apparently. I am no stranger to red, white + blue combinations and this one is no exception. Sometimes they have an Americana feel, sometimes they're straight up nautical. I haven't decided which one this is more of (maybe nautical because of the hint of gold in the accessories?!) Who knows. One thing is for certain though: I am wearing the cutest cardigan ever! I hate that we forgot to get a detail shot of it, but I really haven't taken it off since I received it on Saturday. I guess forgetting to photograph it is a good excuse to wear it again really really soon! This is the cardigan and holy cute right?! The little swan and bows and lace. I die! It's also a fantastic weight. I've been having issues with cardigans lately. I know it's probably because it's like 100+ degrees outside, but all of the ones for sale now are this lightweight stretchy fabric... no no no! I like my cardigans of medium weight and thickness so I can wear them year-round and they don't stretch out awkwardly. That's why I'll probably go back and buy a replacement of this one just to have it for when I (undoubtedly) wear it to shreds. (Seriously. Have you felt the Target cardigans lately?! I want to go back to the ones they had last year with the ruffles! C'mon!)

This bright red dress is the sister dress to the one in this outfit post! Yes, when I say I buy multiples (in quantity and color) of the things I like, I'm really not kidding. It's a lightweight dress but the bottom has some sort of structure about it that I can't quite put my finger on. It keeps it held down when a gust of wind comes, but I don't feel like I'm dying under fabric in the Nashville summer. Paired with the same thrifted belt and my new limited-edition Betsey Johnson bag I snagged on Ideeli last week... win! This is also the first time I've worn these Blowfish shoes! These are the Romans and I've had them for months! Probably like.. 4 months now? I just haven't found the perfect outfit for them. Voila!

Today is a day of productivity! I'm already eyeball deep in an over the top girly blog design (so fun! I love doing stuff like this!) and I'll be launching the first set of fabric bows on Hive + Honey! I'm editing photos for the closet part of our loft tour (eeeeek! It's almost my dream closet!), and then I'm mailing off H+H packages! Oh, and my bike gets delivered today! Hooray Tuesday!

Motel "Franchesca" dress c/o Love Clothing (just got marked down on sale!)
Swan Striped cardigan c/o Love Clothing (also just got marked down on sale!)
Golden Arch necklace c/o Little Pancakes
    Thrifted white belt
    Betsey Johnson tote via Ideeli

PS; Last day to vote for me in the three categories of the AE contest! (Some dude just blew up from like 3rd place by getting 200+ votes overnight. Boo!) ONE // TWO // THREE. Thank you to everyone who has voted so far. It means a lot to me and I hope that if I'm lucky enough to make it to the finals then you'll stick beside me once more! The cash prize could do so many wonderful things for my dream business! xo

July Valentine

If I could wear pale pink, red, and white all day every day, I would. I mean, I guess I can right? There's that rad woman who only wears pink and her entire house is pink... and maybe even her dog. Not going to lie, I love her! Too much? Maybe.. But still! Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday simply because everything is a lovely hue and there are hearts everywhere. I just love it, okay! Yesterday's outfit definitely reminded me a bit of V-Day and now I'm itching to watch the movie, heh.

The heat + humidity has been insufferable as of late. I'm sure you're tired of reading that in every single post but seriously, I don't like to leave the house. We took these in the hall of our building, right outside our door, because it was too icky to go outside. We were drenched in sweat by the time we were done (in less than 5 minutes!). I just can't hang. Chicago is looking better and better! Of course I know it gets hot there, too, but man... anything to escape this!

I opted to wear my new AX PARIS dress with a lightweight cardigan I picked up from Target. I had to have it because of the blush tone. So cute! Yes, I realize talking about it being super friggin' hot and wearing a cardigan at the same time is a bit dumb, but whatever. I peeled it off of me and probably threw it on the chair for the rest of the day. The dress is kinda maybe a bit short on me so I'll probably get more wear out of it come Autumn/Winter (even though it's a Summer dress) just because I can wear colored tights with it. But I totallllly love the 50's style silhouette of the dress. You probably can't see it but the fit of the top of it is stellar. I had my trusty bike shorts on as usual (impatiently awaiting the arrival of my new bike!), and my black Blowfish Romans which round out my collection of that wedge in every color! I really love them. I had to add the belt for a little bit of ~edge. Oh! Annnddd... the headband is a new design that will be in the shoppe tomorrow! It's felt and adorable and lays flat on your head! You can get them in 15 colors (!!! more coming soon) and you can get them on elastic, metal headbands, barrettes, etc. Stop by tomorrow and snag one (or seven) up! Is that enough parentheses for all of you?! Ha!

Pretty floral dress c/o AX Paris (on sale for $19.99! I want them all!)
    Target cardigan
    Forever 21 belt
Olive sunnies via House of Stella
    H&M bike shorts
    Hive + Honey headband
Blowfish wedges (Use code BFKaelah15 for 15% off your order!)

PS; Blowfish is currently having a sale for any two pairs of shoes for $39! That's a super duper steal.

PPS; My friend Shelby entered a contest at AE for a chance to wind up in an AE advertisement (? I think?) and it'd be lovely if you wanted to vote for her! I'm thinking about entering (a different category, of course) just to see if a tattooed gal could ever end up working with AE, ha!

Edit: I entered! Why not right?! What have I got to lose?! I entered three photos and all it takes is one click each! I'd really appreciate your support! ONE // TWO // THREE xo

I'm kind of having fun incorporating the color palette into the photos. What do you think? This is what I wore yesterday, and to be honest, it's what I've been wearing for the majority of my days lately. Nashville has become so unbearably hot that even someone who has lived here their whole life can't help but complain. With that being said I needed a dress that was light-weight, long enough to wear without tights, and well of course it had to be cute. Tulle to the rescue! I have several Tulle dresses and I love each one more than the last. I first found the brand when I was visiting San Francisco every 6 months and my favorite little shop, Therapy, in Mountain View stocked them. I loaded up on every trip and I still wear every single one of them! It's one of those brands that I'll know I'll wear and adore until the end of time. The quality of the pieces is so stellar and the designs are way too cute! (Seriously, look at this one! I want it in both colors so badly! It's so dreamy!) I also love that they're a brand that stands behind their customers. If you follow them on Twitter then you can get access to some snazzy deals... even 50% off! Also recently added to my collection: this and this! (And yes, I know I have the sleeveless version of that first one but how could I resist?!?! That print is just my favorite!)

A few of my favorites still in the shop are:

Anywhoo, last night I switched into something else and we headed down to the Apple store and then work. The stellar fella at Apple replaced my iPhone that I left in the rain free of charge, so now Mike happily has a 4! Our new friends who just moved to Nashville from Minnesota, Christina and Brian, drove down to my bar to hang out last night. It was super awesome to meet them and they were fabulous! Hopefully there will be more hangouts in the future! The bar had a slow start but by 11:30 we were packed. It didn't slow down until I turned the lights on at 2am. I like those nights because they often mean good money and time flies. We pored into bed at 3:30am and here we are!

No telling what today has in store for us but I'm ready to get up and out of this house. Cabin fever going on! Happy Sunday, honeybees!

What have you been up to this weekend?!

    Thrifted belt
    Target cardigan
    Hive + Honey fascinator
    Gimmick wedges c/o Blowfish Shoes

PS; If pretty dresses weren't enough to make you check out Tulle, almost all of them are on sale! Woohoo!

PPS; I opted for Essie's Mamba nail polish (of course it's chipped on me) and ELF's matte lip color in Coral to round out the nude coral theme. Matches the outfit and building nicely if I do say so myself! I'll be sharing my favorite makeup this week! ;)
