One thing I'll miss about summer is...

meeting all kind of critters. This year I had the privilege of meeting bunches of fuzzy caterpillars, a few painted turtles, a whole bunch of deer, a cute little raccoon (would you like to see photos?), tiny toads, 13 poults, and more.


Something I just realized I never posted about was this frog, or... soon to be frog! ;)




It's easy to forget what an amazing life cycle a frog has. They're like butterflies but more awesome because you can physically see each stage of their metamorphosis. Frogs are pretty darn neat if you ask me.

Pymatuning Deer Park.

On Wednesday my mom took my nephew, two of my nieces and I to Pymatuning Deer Park, it's like a family owned mini-zoo. They have over 250 animals including lots of goats, a lion, some black bears, a zebra, cougars, some monkeys, a bunch of birds and more! It was probably one of the last few times I'll get to spend time with the kids before they go back to school (plus I can never resist an opportunity to take photos of animals) so I took the day off work.


The only animals that had me ooh-ing and ahhh-ing were the....







They were absolutely precious. They had tons of room to run and play but seemed to mostly enjoy being up close and personal with park visitors. At the front gate crackers for the animals were sold, so we had fun trying to only feed the smallest of each kind of animal - the big guys were so pushy!

Why are baby animals SO cute?

Isn't this baby painted turtle just the cutest little thing? I couldn't put him down, I just wanted to keep staring at him and giving him a little squeeze-y hugs. (I never grew out of squeezing animals that I think are cute, don't worry, no turtles were harmed!)






Isn't he precious?! I love how smug his face is when his mouth is closed.

It's the little things...

like catching a jar full of lightning bugs!

....and finally figuring out how to make a GIF in photoshop (even if your first two attempts were backwards! :P )

I hope I never get too old to think that catching lightning bugs is one of the best things to do a warm summer night. Kevin and I had so much fun running around catching them, I can't wait to do it again.

I took a sick day today, which made me feel completely lazy but I guess it was somewhat successful because other than feeling slightly better now, I also managed to get my inbox about half way cleared out, write up a few draft posts, edit a bunch of photos and learn how to make a GIF in photoshop!

One of my favorite things about summer...

TINY TOADS!
I hadn't seen any yet this summer until last weekend! They are so cute (most tiny critters are though!) and way faster than you'd think. I love spotting them hoping a long in the grass, I always think it's going to be a bug that I'm picking up but am surprised when it's a tiny little toad!

Spring&Summer

I feel like spring and summer are going too fast. It's almost July which means it's almost my birthday (August 2nd!) then once it hits August it feels like downhill battle from there, like one day you just wake up and it's snowing. Well, that's how my brain processes it at least. :P

I am thoroughly enjoying my nice weather months. We go mushrooms picking at least once a week. Last week we even got in trouble for it. Did you know you need a permit? I sure didn't. Apparently since park land is owned by everyone in the county, they're everyone's mushrooms and the park needs to know how many mushrooms are leaving. (seriously?) The ranger was a real jerk about it, acted like we were committing some heinous act. (95% of them we pick aren't edible anyway...) So now we are working on getting a permit so next time he doesn't make me dump my basket like a child.

I can't wait to have property of our own to explore, not that I don't love my parent's woods because I most certainly do but it'll be so nice to just go outside and wander around in the woods instead of having to drive a half hour.

Spring Photodump! Part 1 of 2!

my basket for collecting mushrooms!


I'm so happy about Spring. (although this week's weather isn't very Spring-like!!) I'm so excited to be back to picking mushrooms and wandering the woods. Wearing t-shirts and shorts! Driving with the windows rolled down! I have never in my life been as excited and thankful for this weather as I am this year.

The 50mm f1.4 is still impressing the heck out of me. Money well spent if you ask me. I can't believe it took me that long to decide whether or not I wanted to buy it. The colors it captures are so unbelievable.

Well, I've got a busy day a head of me and a massive to-do list! Hope you all have an awesome day!
