Camping in Cook Forest, PA

Earlier this week I shared some film photos I took at Double Diamond Deer Ranch while we were camping in Cook Forest, PA earlier in the summer and now I want to share some of the other photos I took that weekend.

I shot mostly with my Canon Rebel T2 that weekend (all of these are from that camera) and I'm actually really glad I did. I only got out my digital camera a few times to take photos of mushrooms. It was a bummer to not be able to see the photos right away but when I finally did get the film developed they were that much more special to me.  One of my new year's resolutions this year was "shoot more film" so that might one thing that actually gets crossed off (seeing as "get my license" and "cook more often" don't seem to be happening anytime soon...)









Cook Forest is literally one of the prettiest places I have ever been. If you're anywhere near the area, it's somewhere you have to visit! I would really like to go back and camp again, do some more exploring, and visit more little shops.

Camping is also one of the reasons I kind of miss summer already. I definitely don't feel like we went enough times this summer. This weekend would have been perfect, too bad we didn't know in advance. It's so warm out today!

Double Diamond Deer Ranch!

Remember back when we went camping with Kevin's parents? Well I finally got the film developed! I have so many photos I want to share. First I'll start with the ones from Double Diamond Deer Ranch.



I originally wanted to stop here just because of the huge deer sign but once we pulled in for me to take the photo I realized we had to go in. Let me tell you the five dollar per person admission is so so so worth it.

The deer were absolutely adorable and they were so friendly! There were a few who just wouldn't stop licking my hand, it was heaven. I might have even cried a little bit.  (Yep, crazy lady over there getting her hand licked by a deer with tears rolling down her cheek, that's me!) It was such an awesome time.

The deer had tons of room to roam and play. It was awesome, you could tell they really loved the deer!  It was amazing to be able to get so close to the deer and touch them. I had no idea their antlers were so soft and warm!

The deer on Double Diamond Deer Ranch live out their whole life on the ranch. All of their antlers are collected after they shed them and after the deer pass they're mounted too. The second part of the ranch housed all the mounts. It was really neat room!


All the deer had a little name plate and had a short little blurb with their story. It was so awesome. I also might have cried a little in here too, not because it was sad but because it was so sweet to read all their stories and learn about what a lovely (and for most of them, long!) life they lived.

Long story short: if you're anywhere near Cook Forest, PA - head to Double Diamond Deer Ranch. It's literally one of the coolest places I have ever been!

Polaroid Land Camera Automatic 215

I think my instax was just replaced...

I bought this beauty on ebay a week or so ago. I was nervous to try a new camera (especially an older one that was well loved by it's previous owner) but couldn't resist an instant camera that I could easily find film for.

When I finally got the camera I was ecstatic to find it had all the original paperwork including the booklet, and cold clip with instruction leaflet. I was really intimidated since I've seen tons of these cameras at thrift stores and couldn't for the life of myself figure out how to close them back up. The booklet is so incredibly detailed, great descriptions with step by step photos for everything, such a difference from camera books now!


I started with a pack of black and white film, which usually isn't my style. As you've probably gathered I'm a colorful person but for some reason I just felt like I needed to buy black and white film for this camera and I'm so stoked I did. Here are some of the photos I've taken so far...




 Aaaaand my absolute favorite so far! My dad, my mom and I at the beach on his birthday. It's hairball over exposed since I didn't think to check the temperature again despite the fact it was much later (and inevitably warmer) in the day. But it's still a really special photo that I think will find a new home in my special box.


Eeeep! I love this camera so so so much! I am really excited to experiment some more.
Anyone else have a polaroid land camera? Aren't they the coolest?!

52 Weeks of Instax // Week 35

Oh, where to start with this photo...  I bought an instax 50s a while back and immediately had some problems with it, but it allowed me to finish off a pack of film with minimal problems so when I loaded up the second pack I didn't think anything would go wrong but boy was I incorrect!

The camera was slow to respond, I would press the button to turn it on and it wouldn't until about 30 seconds later. When it finally did turn on pressing the shutter wouldn't do a thing no matter how many times I tried. So I tried to take the film pack out so I could use it in my instax mini 7s and return the camera but the pack wouldn't come out even though I had it installed correctly, yellow lines lined up. It wouldn't budge.

I contacted the seller I bought it from - no response. After waiting and waiting I filed a case with amazon. Another 15 days later they finally got back to me and said nothing could be done for me, the seller wouldn't accept a return and wouldn't help me out.  So mad I was nearly in tears, I decided to just rip out the pack of film. I found the "this is not a film" piece was jammed for who knows what reason! I took it out and put the film back in and it started working just fine (other than the issues I had with it in the first place which includes the fact the film is SUPER hard to get out once it starts to eject from the camera)

All in all, despite getting a lemon, this pictures did turn out pretty neat. The one I chose for my week 35 photo is my favorite of the bunch.


I'm not sure how I feel about putting more film in the camera. Good thing I didn't sell my trusty instax mini 7s when I bought the new and improved one!

110 Film!

Recently I got some photos I sent out to be developed from Dwayne's Photo back. No one local develops 110 film so it has to be sent out. This is the second time I've sent film there and I'm more than pleased. The turn around time is great, and the prices aren't bad! Aaaanywho, lets get on to the pictures, I'll start with my favorites first because I just might have let out a little squeal when I saw what was on the film!





These are from the second day we had the Professor, we had just decided that we would keep him and we celebrated by hanging out in our front yard and snapping some photos! I know we took some with the digital camera and with another roll of 110 film but I didn't realize we started a second roll! I'm so excited to have these photos! He's so tiny!!

And here are some more, all of which are from last summer as well...






I was pretty stoked to see a porcupine, I've never seen one in Ohio.


I'm so excited, and I think it's about time I head to ebay to find more film! 110 film is 110% (har har har! i'm so funny!) my favorite type of film, there's just something so charming about it. Not to mention the fact that 110 cameras always seem to be really cute!

Film from Fall & Winter 2010

I know I'll regret saying this...but I kind of miss Fall and Winter! As much as I love summer, I hate sweating and being miserably hot. My dream climate would have 4 seasons, but repeated twice throughout the year so each season was about a month and a half long. That would be so awesome but since that's not even possible I'll just enjoy looking at pictures while I recover from my brief lapse of sanity that has me missing cooler weather. ;)


These were taken with my trusty thrifted 35mm camera during Fall and Winter 2010....











Aaaand a gorgeous one of Kevin and I.... We're so cute! :P

52 weeks of instax // week 28, 29 & 30

Week 28 // Doctor Octopus lounging on the couch. This is probably the most common place and position you'll find him sleeping. He knows he's precious.

 Week 29 // Jumping with Elycia at the beach.

Week 30 // I had a really awesome mail day on Tuesday and got three pairs of shoes. Two pretty floral ones from Forever 21 and some fancy new ones from Blowfish.

It feels great to be completely caught up on this project! I'm excited to share my weekly photo with you each Sunday!!
